2016-09-28coredump,catalog: give better notice when a core file is truncatedZbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek
coredump had code to check if copy_bytes() hit the max_bytes limit, and refuse further processing in that case. But in 84ee0960443, the return convention for copy_bytes() was changed from -EFBIG to 1 for the case when the limit is hit, so the condition check in coredump couldn't ever trigger. But it seems that *do* want to process such truncated cores [1]. So change the code to detect truncation properly, but instead of returning an error, give a nice log entry. [1] https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/3883#issuecomment-239106337 Should fix (or at least alleviate) #3883.
2016-06-26catalog: make support URL to show in shipped catalog entries configurable ↵Lennart Poettering
(#3597) Let's allow distros to change the support URL to expose in catalog entries by default. It doesn't make sense to direct end-users to the upstream project for common errors. This adds a --with-support-url= switch to configure, which allows overriding the default at build-time. Fixes: #2516

2016-04-29core: rename StartLimitInterval= to StartLimitIntervalSec=Lennart Poettering
We generally follow the rule that for time settings we suffix the setting name with "Sec" to indicate the default unit if none is specified. The only exception was the rate limiting interval settings. Fix this, and keep the old names for compatibility. Do the same for journald's RateLimitInterval= setting

2016-02-10editors: only extend line width to 119 for C and XML filesLennart Poettering
For all other files leave the line width at 79 as before. This is a good idea since we generally don't want text files such as catalog files, unit files or README/NEWS files to be line-broken at 119 since they are regularly browsed on text terminals. While we are at it, also add a couple of comments to the various files. (Note that .editorconfig doesn't carry line-width information, simply because the specification doesn't know the concept.)

2016-01-25catalog: fix line width to 79 charsLennart Poettering
Line breaks default to 119 characters for systemd sources now, configured through the .vimrc and .dir-local.el files. However, for the catalog files we really should stick to 79 chars, as they are regularly shown on terminal screens.
2016-01-23journald: use structured message + catalog entry for disk usageZbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek
The format of the journald disk usage log entry was changed back and forth a few times. It is annoying to have a very verbose message, but if it is short it is hard to understand. But we have a tool for this, the catalogue. $ journalctl -x -u systemd-journald Jan 23 18:48:50 rawhide systemd-journald[891]: Runtime journal (/run/log/journal/) is 8.0M, max 196.2M, 188.2M free. -- Subject: Disk space used by the journal -- Defined-By: systemd -- Support: http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/systemd-devel -- -- Runtime journal (/run/log/journal/) is currently using 8.0M. -- Maximum allowed usage is set to 196.2M. -- Leaving at least 294.3M free (of currently available 1.9G of disk space). -- Enforced usage limit is thus 196.2M, of which 188.2M are still available. -- -- The limits controlling how much disk space is used by the journal may -- be configured with SystemMaxUse=, SystemKeepFree=, SystemMaxFileSize=, -- RuntimeMaxUse=, RuntimeKeepFree=, RuntimeMaxFileSize= settings in -- /etc/systemd/journald.conf. 2013-06-20logind: add infrastructure to keep track of machines, and move to slicesLennart Poettering
- This changes all logind cgroup objects to use slice objects rather than fixed croup locations. - logind can now collect minimal information about running VMs/containers. As fixed cgroup locations can no longer be used we need an entity that keeps track of machine cgroups in whatever slice they might be located. Since logind already keeps track of users, sessions and seats this is a trivial addition. - nspawn will now register with logind and pass various bits of metadata along. A new option "--slice=" has been added to place the container in a specific slice. - loginctl gained commands to list, introspect and terminate machines. - user.slice and machine.slice will now be pulled in by logind.service, since only logind.service requires this slice.

2012-11-15journal: implement message catalogLennart Poettering
The message catalog can be used to attach short help texts to log lines, keyed by their MESSAGE_ID= fields. This is useful to help the administrator understand the context and cause of a message, find possible solutions and find further related documentation. Since this is keyed off MESSAGE_ID= this will only work for native journal messages. The message catalog supports i18n, and is useful to augment english language system messages with explanations in the local language. This commit only includes short explanatory messages for a few example message IDs, we'll add more complete documentation for the relevant systemd messages later on.
